Generating the Cookie via an E-mail

Inserting JavaScript on your pages is not enough to inform ACTITO of the visits made by your contacts on your website. An ID is indeed necessary for the script to function properly, as it allows to identify the profile in question as well as the URL of the visited page.

This ID is transmitted by ACTITO through a cookie set on the browser of the user.

There are two options to set this cookie:

Activating a goal in email campaigns

To activate the storage of cookies via an e-mail sending, this option must be activated during the preparation of your campaign. This setting must be done at the first step of the preparation of an e-mail campaign. For a global overview of the campaign definition stages, we invite you to read the 'Creating a new E-mail Campaign' chapter.

Next, click on 'See advanced options':

Go to the very bottom of the page, in the 'Goal Enabled' section. This section will only be displayed if there is a goal linked to the profile database that you selected as target database of the email.

Select 'Yes' to activate the generation of cookies.

Tip

In the new e-mail engine, it is no longer necessary to activate the goal tracking for your e-mail campaign. If there are existing goals related to the target database, goal tracking will be activated automatically.

A cookie will be stored when the receiver clicks on a link from the email. To this end, the link must direct to a page containing the JavaScript code snippet generated after the creation of the goal. The interaction between the email and the script will enable the storage of the cookie.

The lifetime of a cookie depends on the type of goal:

  • 12 months for website visit goals (legal maximum)

  • 1 month for transaction goals
